· PLUMBING TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE LEVEL 2 (6129) · PLUMBING NVQ LEVEL 2 (6089) · PLUMBING TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE LEVEL 3 (6129) · PLUMBING NVQ LEVEL 3 (6089) · PLUMBING NVQ LEVEL 2&3 · WATER REGULATIONS · UNVENTED · ENERGY EFFICIENCY · LEGIONELLA
Government statistics show there is a shortage of between 24,000 and 29,000 plumbers in the United Kingdom. One of the main reasons for the skills shortage is the lack of apprenticeships being offered to school leavers. The majority of professional plumbers are one man, self employed businesses that are reluctant to train an apprentice. Teaching an apprentice has an adverse impact on productivity, therefore affecting profit. Furthermore, once the apprentice is fully trained, they tend to start working for themselves on a self employed basis. In short, it is very difficult for the mature career changer to get into plumbing via the conventional route.
The natural route to becoming a plumber in the UK is via an apprenticeship. With two or three years study at college and working for a plumbing firm you will progress towards NVQ level 2 or level 3. With very limited places available in colleges and also the added inability of some colleges to offer any individual a satisfactory and dedicated training program, On some occasions, leaving the student to read technical manuals in a classroom for hours, simply because there are no available trainers or even let the student go home to “Study” because of other unrelated courses being conducted within the confines of the workshop. Whichever the reason it is both totally outrageous and unethical, but it has been proved to happen, and indeed it does happen. At GASTEC you are given undivided attention and will work in comfortable classrooms all with air conditioning, our workshops are designed to allow every student to work in a totally stress free and user friendly manner. Each individual has his/her own tool kit and is allocated set work areas dependant on the tasks being undertaken, all work is overseen by a completely qualified instructor who will offer advice and help, even on a one to one situation. With all the problems highlighted overleaf the difficulty in obtaining apprenticeships, many students are turning to private companies to bridge the training gap. The choice of courses available is bewildering. We at GASTEC can advise you on which course you should take, but much of this depends on your goals and aspirations and what you want from a plumbing career.
Our courses deal with City and Guilds 6129 and 6089 these are fully accredited with City & Guilds and are designed around our experience in the market place. The real difference between our courses and that of some centres or even colleges advertising their courses is that, even though they may offer shorter or even cheaper course, Are they relevant to your needs, These course cost you a lot of money and time so every effort is made by GASTEC to ensure you fully understand the differences in the courses we offer to that of some unsavoury and unscrupulous provider we have encountered. We want to provide you with a
totally honest appraisal so you understand what getting qualified as a
plumber is all about, something that we at GASTEC recommend is that
you do consider, but need to appreciate what is actually involved as well. Beware
- The City & Guilds 6022 and 6032 do NOT qualify as underpinning
knowledge for the NVQ 2 and they are NOT mapped into the recognised plumbing
framework. The C&G 6022 - Copper Tube Advice & Installation and 6032
- Sanitary Accommodation Installation Maintenance & Design are stand
alone certifications. Some courses similar to the ones listed overleaf that
you see advertised, range from a one week “Do it Yourself” beginners plumbing
course right up to courses of over 20 weeks or spread out even longer in some
cases which include weeks sitting in a classroom (or at home) doing “HOME
STUDIES” which as you and I know only too well, never actually works in the
real world, with all the interruptions from business or family members, your
valuable home life suffers, spending time and being able to concentrate on
the tasks needed for the course study is almost impossible to achieve. Added
to the fact you will still have to be working in that environment for
probably Two years before getting final assessments for a certificate so as
you can see, it does not happen overnight.
If the answer is NO then GASTEC has the cure: We at GASTEC in a much shorter space of time, Have the expertise and ability to train all our students to a proficient level in basic plumbing work, to enable them to cope with a wide variety of work that plumbers do in the domestic market place, unlike colleges whom offer day release or block release courses even night classes all of which will take at least 2 years to get through the wealth of knowledge required to undergo the theory and practical assessments required both during and after the courses, The classic result usually is a very large dropout rate of students whom cannot afford or are fed up with College antics that they understandably decide to call it a day.
